A Christmas Movie Night Your Kids Will Love

Hi! I’m Jennifer from the Party Teacher and I’m thrilled to be back as a guest blogger for Toni’s Christmas Wonderful! There’s nothing my girls love more during the Christmas holiday then curling up with some snacks and watching Christmas movies. And while nobody needs another project during the busy Christmas season, this Christmas Movie Night Party is so simple to put together that I think you’ll really have fun hosting it. This is a great party for kids of any age. Invite friends over or keep it just the family.

Easy Christmas Movie Night Party by The Party Teacher

A quick thank you to Toni for having me back as part of Christmas Wonderful! You can see my past CW projects:

    • Christmas tree party backdrop
    • Grinch Nutter Butter cookies
    • Christmas tree tissue tassle garland
    • Four ways to decorate Christmas chairs

Over at my blog, The Party Teacher, I’d love to have you grab my Free Party Planning Cheat Sheets. These are the 12 worksheets I use to plan all my parties and I’m sure they will help you plan your next event!

For this Christmas Movie Night Party, you’re going to make one run to the grocery store, turn to Amazon for a few supplies, and decorate using what you have. Easy peasy!

    Christmas Movie Night Decorations

I started by adding one of my ribbon buntings to our TV stand and a smaller version of the same bunting to my little pink bar cart (an antique store lucky find).

From there, I tossed Christmas and everyday pillows and throw blankets on the floor to make for cozy seating.

I tried to keep any additional decor centered around either Santa or movie night elements like film strip ribbon, a clap board, and a battery powered red star. The film reels are left over from my New Year’s Eve Family Movie Night Party.

You can find darling Christmas movie night printables on Etsy if you want to take things up a step, but I just used a mini letter board sign that I’ve had for years to spell out “concessions.”

The last piece of decor is a flower arrangement in a Santa mug. You can find similar mugs at Dollar Tree or I’m sure on Amazon. Then, go to the grocery store and pick up white, red and green flowers. The roses were $12 each and the dahlias were $8; those three bouquets were enough to make two Santa mug arrangements. (You can find the tutorial here.) I think the mug arrangements also would make sweet teacher gifts with a little gift card attached.

    Christmas Movie Night Snacks

I added movie theater style candy in Christmas assortments. Of course, we popped popcorn and added it to a cookie jar with a side of Christmas M&Ms for anyone who wanted to sweeten up the popcorn.

And just because Smallcakes cupcakes are always a special treat in my household, we added those to the concession stand as well. Smallcakes decorated cupcakes with Santa hats, wreaths, and then white and red frosting with gold pearls. So cute and so yummy!

On top of our Shirley Temple sodas, I added a mini Santa hats.

To make eating on the floor simple, I found cardboard snack boxes and bamboo breakfast trays. That combination made it super easy for the girls to choose their candy, popcorn and soda from the bar cart and then settle down on the pillows to watch Elf.

Our dogs also invited themselves to our Christmas movie night party! They are BIG fans of popcorn.

    Christmas Movie Night Invitations

To invite folks to your Christmas Movie Night, add a printable ticket invitation to a mini stocking, tuck in a box of candy, and hand-deliver these to your friends. I just hung the stockings from my daughters’ bedroom doorknobs. Ask everybody to come in Christmas jammies!
