Is it getting colder where you live? Welcome to December! I love the winter holidays and I am so happy to be here and share with you one of my favorite winter treats! Hot Cocoa. I love hot cocoa. I love putting all kinds of yummy additions to my hot cocoa when I was creating hot cocoa concoctions I came across this magic combination! These Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa on a stick are soooo yummy, there is a hidden surprise in them!
This recipe is pretty simple and starting with hot milk you can have a delicious cup of hot cocoa that will warm you from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. I love creating delicious and new flavors to add to my hot cocoa. I am also a lover of all things “salty sweet”. When salted caramel hit the streets I was one of the first to latch on to it and make it a new favorite! I even have a Salted Carmelita recipe on my blog, they would be perfect with the salted caramel hot cocoa.
I found the cute snowflake sticks at Walmart! They are perfect for these. They were a bit long so I cut about an inch off the bottom and they are perfect! I also love things that are teeny tiny so these marshmallows that you can find at your local grocery store are perfect to make these hot cocoa sticks cute. Plus now that there are the cute little caramel bits they are the finishing touch to really make these super cute! You can also wrap them in cellophane bags, they are perfect for gift giving!
Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa on Stick
18 oz good quality chocolate
½ cup cocoa powder (you can use Dutch processed, but natural will work as well)
1 cup powdered sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
⅓ cup caramel bits
20 unwrapped soft caramels
freeze dried mini marshmallows
Fleur de sel
On a double boiler, melt the chocolate until smooth. Stir in your cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and salt. The mixture will be very thick but keep stirring the mixture it will come together.
Using a spoon drop about a teaspoon of the chocolate mixture in bottom of cup, top with a soft caramel, then fill with more chocolate. Insert your sticks. The mixture should be thick enough to hold them up without a problem. Top with more caramel bits and a few teeny tiny marshmallows. Sprinkle the salt over the chocolate.
Allow to harden 4 – 6 hours, preferably overnight.
Peel off the cups and place your hot chocolates in a cellophane bag and sprinkle in more marshmallows.
To make hot chocolate: Heat 5oz whole milk and 3 oz heavy cream until hot and steaming. Place one of the hot chocolate sticks in the mug and swirl to melt. Top with more teeny tiny marshmallows.
Here is the surprise! No one will even know its hidden in the middle just look how cute that caramel looks covered in delicious chocolate. It’s going to be so yummy as it melts into your cocoa!!
