This easy pineapple Dole Whip ice cream recipe is perfect for making at home with an ice cream machine. It is absolutely delicious and takes about 2 minutes of prep time. I’m not kidding.
With just a dry mix and water, you can whip up a delicious, tropical frozen dessert that will transport you straight to a sunny paradise. I’m excited to share how simple it is to make Pineapple Dole Whip Ice Cream at home.
Whether you’re entertaining guests or just indulging yourself, this homemade version of the classic Disney favorite is sure to impress. I had my first pineapple Dole Whip at the Dole Plantation in Hawaii, served as a soft-serve ice cream in a cone. Since then, I’ve enjoyed it at the Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World, and Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. At the Tiki Room, I first tried Tajin sprinkled on top of the Dole Whip—a must-try if you enjoy Tajin!
Pros of Making Pineapple Ice Cream Dole Whip Mix
The secret to this easy Pineapple Dole Whip Ice Cream is using a soft serve mix available on Amazon. I used my ice cream machine (more on this later) and couldn’t believe how simple and delicious it was. It tastes like the real Dole Whip, similar to what they serve at Disney Theme Parks. Dole Whip Mix is now a staple is my home!
Pros include:
- Quick and easy to make (2 minutes prep time and 25 minutes machine time)
- Requires only two ingredients: the powder mix and water
- Costs about $0.50 per serving, with each bag containing 72 servings
- Dairy-free, ideal for those who can’t consume dairy
- No long lines or trips to Disney Parks (although that could be a con for some)
- No need for fresh pineapple, which can be pricey and not always available
- The dry mix is always on hand, so you can enjoy a treat quickly
Cons of Using a Mix and Ice Cream Machine: What You Need to Know
For me, there are no cons. I love my ice cream machine, which you need an ice cream machine for this recipe. However, some might view the need to purchase an ice cream maker as a downside. The Cuisinart requires a frozen bowl, which some might find inconvenient, but I find it handy. I always keep a bowl frozen in the freezer and ready, so I can make traditional ice cream or this pineapple treat whenever I want.
If you don’t have an ice cream machine, I’ve created a Pineapple Dole Whip recipe that only requires a blender
The Benefits of Using an Ice Cream Machine for Pineapple Dole Whip
I use a Cuisinart ice cream machine, priced under $150, which is a favorite appliance of mine. Another highly-rated Cuisinart model is under $99. While I don’t own that one, I love the one I have and find it reasonably priced. Besides making Dole Whip, I plan to make various ice cream flavors like chocolate, peach, coconut cream, butter pecan, and vanilla. I can customize the ingredients to keep the recipes mostly healthy (as healthy as ice cream can be ; )). The Cuisinart machine I have makes 2 quarts of ice cream (or less if needed). The typical ice cream container at the store is 1 ยฝ quarts. I love that this makes more than the typical-sized container.

Is Making Pineapple Dole Whip Ice Cream at Home Worth It?
Absolutely! My first attempt amazed me with how easy and quick it was. The above image shows the mix and water just starting out in the machine. It’s the real deal, and I’m thrilled to serve this tropical treat to family and friends. You might also try making Dole Whip floats—combining classic Dole Whip with pineapple juice in a tall cup for a refreshing treat. I’m eager to try this myself.
Dole Whip Dairy-Free
A Pineapple Dole Whip is a dairy-free, fruity frozen treat with a soft-serve texture. Disney World offers various flavors and combinations like Dole Whip swirled with vanilla soft serve, but the classic version is purely pineapple. This soft serve mix is lactose-free, dairy-free, gluten-free, and vegan-friendly, made without milk or dairy products.
Tips for Dole Whip
Dole Whip makes many other flavors besides pineapple soft serve mix. I’m excited to try other flavors like orange, mango, strawberry, and pomegranate. You could even make Dole Whip Day a monthly treat for family and friends! Due to its yumminess, my servings tend to be on the larger side.
I use these 2 quart ice cream containers to store ice cream or dole whip after making it. I make 2 quarts at a time and yes, I have ice cream left over after eating some. So unless I have company over, I will always have leftovers and these are a great way to store the extra ice cream.
Elevate Your Dole Whip with a Tajin
As I mentioned earlier in the post, I sprinkle Tajin on top of my Pineapple Dole Whip. When visiting Disneyland, they have individual packets of Tajin to add to your Dole Whip. We always have Tajin in our home. If you haven’t tried Tajin before – know it’s made with mild chili peppers, lime, and salt. It’s perfect to sprinkle on fruit, vegetables, popcorn, ice cream, and many more food items.
