How To Make Jojoba Bead Soap

A very important tip to healthy, soft and glowing skin is exfoliation.

I occasionally like making my own soap and skin care products.

I know exactly what I am putting in my recipe! Jojoba beads are a great way to add exfoliation to soap.

Use jojoba beads as raw material for making beauty products or add directly to finished skin care products.

Although I still do purchase skin care products (they’re expensive), it is nice to make them occasionally and especially choosing my colors, fragrances and ingredients.

One thing to be careful of are microbeads in skin care products. Microbeads are tiny pieces of plastic used in personal care products.

They are designed to go down the drain and into our rivers, lakes and oceans every day.

Obviously, not good for our environment. So, I do not add microbeads. when making skin care products.

So what do I use? Jojoba beads!

Jojoba beads exfoliate similar as microbeads do, but they are a gentler alternative and are less likely to harm sewer systems or the environment.

    Jojoba soap

    Supplies:

    • *1 pound clear suspension melt and pour soap, cut into cubes
    • **½ pound goats milk melt and pour soap, cut into cubes
    • 5 teaspoons lilac scented oil
    • Dark and light blue soap dye
    • Blue jojoba beads
    • *Mini bundt silicone mold
    • Spray bottle of rubbing alcohol
    • 3 measuring cups

*2.2” diameter by 1” depth x 8 cavities. Each cavity holds approximately 3.75 ounces. The whole size of the mold is 11.2” x 6.5” and holds approx. 1.9 pounds of soap. It will make approximately 8, 3.75 ounce bars/pieces of soap.

    Instructions:

Steps 1-3:  *Divide 28-30 cubes (each cube is approx. .8 ounce) evenly between two measuring cups.

Add ½ teaspoon of the lilac scented oil to each of the measuring cups of soap cubes.

Melt the soap in the microwave at 30 second bursts until soap is completely melted.

Steps 4-5: **Add 15-17 cubes of the goats milk soap base into the remaining measuring cup.

Add ½ teaspoon of the lilac scented oil to each of the measuring cups of soap cubes.

Melt the soap in the microwave at 30 second bursts until soap is completely melted.

    Jojoba soap

Steps 6-8:  Add 1 drop of the darker blue to one of the measuring cups with the suspension soap and 1 drop of the lighter blue to the other measuring cup and mix well.

You don’t want to use too much color or you won’t be able to see your jojoba beads floating in the soaps.

Add the jojoba beads and mix in gently.

    Jojoba soap

Steps 9-11: Spray your soap mold with the rubbing alcohol.

    This prevents bubbles from forming.

Pour about 1.4 ounces of the darker soap mixture into each of your molds.

Spray top of mixture with rubbing alcohol to prevent bubbles. Allow to harden completely.

Steps 12-14: Spray top of darker blue soap mixture with rubbing alcohol.

This helps the layers adhere to each other.

Pour about an ounce of the white soap mixture and spray your white soap layer with the rubbing alcohol.

Allow to harden at least 30-45 minutes. You know you can pour the next layer if you blow on the soap and it doesn’t ripple.

Steps 15-18: Spray top of white soap mixture with rubbing alcohol.

Pour the lighter blue soap mixture into each cavity, filling each to the top.

Spray with the rubbing alcohol. Allow to dry overnight.

Gently pop soaps from the mold and store in an airtight container or Ziploc bag until ready to use.
