It’s day 2 of our Halloween Bash and we’re so excited to share another 20 fabulous Halloween ideas with you!
You’ve seen plenty of football player costumes, but I bet you’ve never seen a FOOTBALL FIELD costume. Your mini football lover will love this costume. This costume is sure to be a touchdown!
The idea for this football field costume is that it wears like a sandwich board- easy on, easy off. It is so convenient! It is also very inexpensive. You can make this football field costume for under $4!
Supplies to make football field costume:
- 2 dollar store green turf mats
- cheap white craft paint and thin paintbrush
- small toy football
- ribbon
- scissors
- hot glue gun
- football equipment- helmet, mouthguard, pads, whatever you want!
Step 1: The key to making your football field look accurate is good MEASURING. I used a tape measurer to find the length of the turf mat- mine was 24 inches long. Since I was starting my football field at the 50 yard line, I left off 4 inches at the bottom (to write TOUCHDOWN) and divided my field into four 5 inch sections. I used a sharpie to make a small dot at every 5 inches. For the back mat, measure and cut 2 inches off the bottom, all the way across. I measured and cut this strip to be 3 inches long to use as a stencil to paint the stripes. Take the stencil that you cut to paint the 3 inch “yard line” stripes. I also made 1 ยฝ inch long stripes in the middle of every two stripes.
Step 2: I decided not to write the numbers for each yard line, only the 50. I measured across the turf (16 inches) and found the center at 8 inches. I then painted the numbers 5 and 0 on either side of the center point. I then painted the word TOUCHDOWN across the bottom 4 inches of the front mat.
Step 3: Grab your hot glue gun. Bring in your little guy to measure how long you’d like your mats to be. Cut two strips of ribbon accordingly, but add on an extra 4 inches or so. I simply hot glued the ribbon on using the excess 2 inches from each ribbon on each mat. Lastly, attaching the football. I hot glued mine, but the ball popped and got slightly deflated. If I were to do this again, I would use a strong tacky glue or a strip of velcro.
Add some football equipment and you’re done! You’ll have a cute football field running around in no time!
