Hello everyone! I’m Dawn from Not Just A Mommy and I’m thrilled to be returning again this year as a camp counselor. I love to share summer themed parties (check out my previous camp posts, Day At The Beach and Strawberries and Lemonade Playdate) and today, we are going to get ready for the 4th of July with my Nautical Patriotic Party.

Nautical Patriotic Party for the 4th of July! Fabulous DIY decor and delicious treats!

Your younger guests will enjoy their own special table and there may even be a few ideas here you can use for your adult table.  I like the idea of mixing nautical items with traditional patriotic items for a more relaxed and fun setting.

I am a big fan of reusable partyware and if you haven’t already, start building up your stash of paper fans, lanterns and honeycomb balls.  They are easy to find at almost any party store and better than wrestling balloons into a car or being on helium tank duty.  The pennant banner is made from canvas so it can be used over and over again.

While you are at the party store, pick up a few dessert sized red plates to create these fun crab plates. I used Martha Stewart’s lobster template for the pincers and modified them for the legs. She also has a seagull and sun template so feel free to mix and match.

I scored the crab and anchor material at my local craft store.  I didn’t finish the edges for the napkins, but if you want to use them again, it will keep them from fraying.

Printables are so versatile and can make solid colored partyware work for any theme.  Bird of Bird’s Party sent me her Nautical Birthday Party Kit and it is chockful of great party elements.  For starters, I used them to jazz up the mini striped popcorn boxes.
Our table centerpieces are simple foam ships that I assembled and added blue stripes to the white sails.  You can also have the kids assemble them as a party activity…they would love seeing their work showcased.   Then send them home at the end of the party…they can really float too!

My friends at SweetWorks sent me Sixlets and multicolored candy fish to decorate and for our little candy buffet. Look around your house for glass vessels or hit up your local dollar store.  I found most of my glass containers at Dollar Tree.

Did you catch the flags in the candy? I attached sails from the party kit to toothpicks.

These star molded cups from Oriental Trading came with those not-very-attractive white plastic bendy straws, so I just swapped them out for paper straws.

Unless you want the kids fighting over who sits where, place cards are always a good idea.  I love these lobster claw ones…shhh…don’t tell anyone they aren’t crab claws.

I turned the straw flags from the party kit into easy food flags with toothpicks!  And no fancy baking here…these patriotic Bundts came from a mix kit.

Did you like the party kit printables I used? As a special treat for Summer Camp, Bird is offering the entire downloadable Nautical Birthday printable kit for 50%.  That means for $6.49 you will the goodies I used plus cupcake wrappers and toppers, bottle labels, bunting and more!  For a limited time, from now through midnight, July 4th, 2014 use the exclusive code NJM at checkout.
