Michael’s Holiday Dream Tree Challenge – Part 1

I love my job! Not only do I get to share fabulous design ideas with you which I adore doing, but also I sometimes get to participate in some wonderfully fun projects! This year I was invited to participate in Michael’s Holiday Dream Tree Challenge. The challenge: 1 pre-lit tree, 1 gift card to Michael’s and 1 week to create the tree of my dreams!

The tree of my dreams? We’ve had a family Christmas tree for so many years and I’ve loved it! But a tree all my own to decorate any way that I want? Oh, wow! I have to be honest. I was a little overwhelmed at first. I’ve never really given much thought to my ideal Christmas tree. Since I’ve been shopping at Michael’s for years and years, I knew there would be many options. So my husband offered to go with me to Michael’s (WHAT???). He says he doesn’t remember that part. We headed to Michael’s to look for inspiration and boy did I find it. My hubby just wanted to spend time with me. I love that man!

I was tickled by what I found! Here’s a sneak peek:

So many things caught my eye. I ended up with a cart-full as I polished my tree vision. I didn’t end up purchasing everything… which things do you think I kept? Did I go with the aqua ribbon? Any ideas what my tree will look like?

If my husband were on his own, he would rather spend time at the gym than go shopping at a craft store. 🙂 But here he is putting all of my goodies in the trunk with a smile on his face. (He said he was smiling because I was done.)
Disclosure: I had absolutely no help from my husband on this project except for him asking me “are you done yet?” (every 10 minutes)

Back at home, I got to work on making my tree vision a reality. I started with the wooden bird house. decoupaged some scrapbook paper on the roof, added a little paint and some glitter to finish it off. I love how glitter makes tree lights appear extra sparkly.

I am excited about how it’s coming together! My tree has a beautiful old vintage finish. I can’t wait to share how to make this beautiful look with you (it’s cheap and easy)! Check back tomorrow for Part 2 of the Michael’s Holiday Dream Tree Challenge. The reveal of my finished tree will be on Tuesday!

What would your dream tree look like?

My tree would be 'rustic sparkle'. Tin, leather, twigs, sticks, copper/rust colored flowers, white lights, with a cowhide skirt.
