March is crafting month and I’ve been busy! I showed Marissa ( my sons darling girlfriend) how to make these ABC felt magnets. This was her first time making these and first time doing the blanket stitch. As you can see, she did a great job! Wouldn’t t a full set (a-z) make a great baby shower or birthday gift?
Craft Felt 9″ x 12″ – one piece of felt makes three letters (four inches tall)
Magnets – I used .5 inch (12.7mm) Neodymium Magnets – one magnet for each letter
Embroidery Floss in coordinating colors
Orange Agent font by http://www.pizzadude.dk. Download front from www.dafont.com. I enlarged the letters quite a bit to produce the four inch size template
Print out letters and cut out. Fold felt in half so it has two layers. Place letter template on top of felt and trace.
Cut out felt pieces. Hot glue the magnet inside the letter.
Place two layers of felt together (front and back). Using a needle and embroidery floss, stitch the blanket stitch around the edges. This is a very easy stitch. It’s been a while since I’ve hand stitched, so I looked up a video on Youtube –blanket stitch tutorial.
When you are almost done sewing the blanket stitch around the letter, fill with polyester fill. Finish up with the blanket stitch. The running stitch was used on the letters that have an “inside” part such as the “a” and the “b”.
Making the felt magnets is a perfect project for couch crafting.
Have you heard of CRE8TIME? CRE8TIME is an initiative from the Craft and Hobby Association to help others reclaim their creativity. Michaels is proud to support CRE8TIME in 2013, and I’m thrilled they asked me to be a part of this challenge. I was given a $200 gift card to purchase supplies for my crafting projects. Thank you, Michaels!!
