Exciting news::: I have been invited to be a Michaels Maker along with 29 other bloggers who are very creative. Michaels explains this new program, “We have handpicked 30 of the top craft and lifestyle bloggers to inspire you by sharing new projects, reviews, DIY tips and techniques throughout the year. These DIY experts will participate in a Michaels craft challenge each month showcasing their skills. Each challenge will be featured here on The Glue String – one project, 30 different craft interpretations, full-on inspiration. You won’t want to miss it!” Yes, I’m thrilled to be one of the 30 bloggers chosen to be a Michaels Maker. There is some amazing talent in this group and it’s an honor to be with such creative talent. What am I sharing today? A No Sew 4th of July T-shirt!
New online shopping site at Michaels…
For this month I was asked to choose an online project and then put my creative spin on it. Shown above is the online “one-click” project I decided to tackle.
This is what I came up with! The back of the shirt has the bandana attached. Here is the easy, fun NO SEW t-shirt for 4th of July that takes all of 20 MINUTES to make. The best part is you can create this shirt with your kids. Gracie is my cute little friend wearing the t-shirt!
The flag shirt can be made with the usual flag colors red ribbon with a blue bow. But I decided to change out the colors.
Purchase the t-shirt, bandana and Heat N Bond Iron on Adhesive online at Michaels.
You can check the “Find a Project” button listed in the category section at the top of Michaels website. There is an assortment of all types of crafts. I choose the apparel crafting category. You can choose the size and color of items you want and this its a “click” to order.
For additional embellishments you can add ribbon like I did to the front of the shirt.
Notice how off center my star cut-out is? With one eye out of commission ( I have an eye stye) it’s amazing how your crafting, driving, etc can be affected ; ) I need to get some glasses and wearing a contact in one eye just isn’t working. Hopefully, the eye stye will go away soon!!
Anyhow, Iron the Heat N Bond to the back of the bandana. See the instructions on the package for full details. I found a star template online and cut out the star and used it as a pattern on the bandana. As you can see, I cut out a smaller star on the inside of the larger star. You can use the smaller star as part of the pattern too if you want. Make sure to iron on the adhesive before you cut out your shapes.
Remove the paper backing and place the shapes on the t-shirt. Now it’s time to iron the bandana cut-out to the t-shirt. It doesn’t take very long. I’ve been using this adhesive for years. It washes well!!
Here is a look at the back of the shirt.
For the front of the shirt you can cut the Heat N Bond into strips an iron it to the back of the ribbon or you can use fabric glue to attach the ribbon to the shirt. The ribbon was cut into 7 inch strips.
Make a bow out of the ribbon. This is an easy way to make bows. Place the ribbon as shown and tie a small thin ribbon around the center. Tightly wrap and knot. Fluff and fiddle until your bow looks great.
Use a large safety pin to attach the bow to the shirt. This way the ribbon bow can be removed for washing.
Don’t you love seeing all the cute kids wearing cute Fourth of July clothing at all the festivities on the fourth? Well, this cute No Sew 4th of July T-Shirt will fit the bill.
Michaels’ has a new online shopping website!! Yippee!! Nothing like shopping online with no little kiddies in tow! And free shipping on orders $50 or more.
