My daughter had outgrown her rather sweet room, replete with pom pom fringe and a healthy dose of pink. I love the fresh appeal of watery aqua blue combined with crisp white, soft pink and a splash of the less predictable: RED. Re-purposing and refreshing items already in the room is a hallmark of my design motto. Often, a new perspective can be gained by repainting, changing fabric, adding a few new accessories, and taking on do-it-yourself projects where your skills (or those of your husband's) allow. Sophie's dad created a "windowless window seat" in a niche in the room that previously housed her toy storage unit. It now serves as a sleep-over spot where her little friends can stay on the weekends, and can also double as a reading nook and/or stage! I also stretched my budget by thinking outside of the box when it came to her overhead lighting. I created a modern drum shade fixture using her outdated ceiling fan as my starting point. Sophie loves her more colourful, grown-up room and I love the combination of hues that add up to a fun, fresh space!
