Polka Dot Fun

This sweet bunny room was designed for a baby boy named Santiago. My clients wanted to be very hands-on in the design process. They painted the room and added the bead board wall treatment. The mom wanted a color palette of aqua and chocolate brown, and wanted whimsical bunnies all around the room. I decided to use the book Guess How Much I love You as inspiration for the mural. The drapes and bedding were created by my assistant Stephanie Bennett, who did a fabulous job making an extra-long bedskirt, bumper pad, drapes and she re-covered the rocking chair cushions in super soft minky dot fabric.
The cornice was built by the homeowner out of MDF. It is made up of a front board, top board, and sides. I did not want the drapery rod to show, so we kept it only four inches away from the wall. It got two coats of glossy white and we hung it over the window on “L” brackets. A simple rod holds the drapes under the cornice. The homeowners wanted a whimsical monogram painted on the cornice, so I choose to add painted ribbon and a crown on his initial. A wooden cornice for a girl’s room could be dressed up with scalloped edging or even a curved design!
Santiago’s crib was handed down from his two older sisters along with the glider and ottoman. The dresser was a new purchase from Target. We dressed it up by adding my hand-painted knobs, a.k.a. Sknobs, for drawer pulls.
