Summer Camp: Boy Bath Bombs

Hello Design Dazzle followers!!! It’s the girls from Homespun With Love… we were invited back for Design Dazzle’s 2013 Summer Camp of fun and great kids activities!!!
Thank you so much for having us again!

We are sharing a fun craft for boys today… bath bombs. Let them go out and play and get all dirty and than fill the tub and they can play some more and get clean too!

The bath bomb ingredients are all natural and good for the skin. Plus they are homemade with you as the overseer. So lets get started with the recipe.  This bath bomb fizzie recipe comes from Paula Parrish. She makes and sells all natural bath and body products and offers recipes on her blog. We hope you will check her out soon.

DIY Bath Bomb Recipe
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Citric Acid
  • 1 cup Baking Soda
  • ½ cup Cornstarch
  • ½ cup of Sweet Almond Oil, Olive Oil, or Sunflower Oil
  • 5 to 8 Drops of Essential Oil (of your choice)
  • Spray Bottle filled with Distilled Water
  • Soy Food Coloring (optional)

Instructions:

  • In a bowl, place citric acid, baking soda, cornstarch and mix, then add the oil.
  • Add your choice of essential oil.
  • Mix well with a fork, then with your hands until a soft dough is formed.
  • If you find that the mixture is too crumbly, spray with tiny bit of water to moisten.
  • Knead into a ball, the consistency should be like soft biscuit dough.
  • Press the soft dough into any molds of your choice.

Tips:

  • You can add colored Epson salt, oatmeal, dried herbs or flowers into the bottom of the molds for an extra special touch. Sprinkle in just before pressing the dough into the mold.
  • Silicone baking molds work the best.
  • Customize your scent to take full advantage of aromatherapy benefits. Lavender essential oil will bring calm and comfort. Peppermint essential oil increases energy and clears your mind.

We scooped out the mixture with an ice cream scoop and free formed rolled a ball since we were not using a mold and we let it air dry on a parchment lined cookie tray.

We saw the idea for wrapping the bath bombs like a bomb over at Skip To My Lou and just had to copy! First we placed the hardened bath bomb in a cupcake liner and than wrapped a piece of tissue paper around it. Than we tucked in a metallic pipe cleaner as the fuse.

We made up extra to store away in anticipation of all the baths to come!

And lets not forget about these cute printables. They are from Simply Designing and they are free.

Now it it is time to see these bombs in action!

                                                 READY! SET! GO!

These fizz up really well and they smell amazing! the water is pretty and the oil is nourishing the skin.

We hope you will give bath bombs a try this summer! Have a fun filled summer!!!
