Summer Camp: Wind Chimes

hi! i’m kim!
I blog over at a girl and a glue gun–i love my glue gun, my three kids, and i never capitalize my sentences and i’m super excited to party with you today! i know the key to a successful summer (ie not having to ship my kids off to boarding school) is to have fun crafts for them to do!
so we decided to make our very own wind chime!
Creative and colorful wind chimes that will be a perfect craft for the kids this summer!
Creative and colorful wind chimes that will be a perfect craft for the kids this summer!
we gathered together some cans

I spray painted them all cause frankly…we love color!

(this is a baked bean can, a green bean can, a cream of mushroom can, like 4 spaghettios and meatballs, and a condensed milk. (this is about a weeks worth of cans for my house)
then the kids got to take a hammer and a big nail and put a hole in the very top of each one…

and then it was time to decorate!!!!
we use apple barrel paint:
then i sealed it with some clear spray paint cause the wind chime are going outside and with this crazy idaho weather it needed a little protection!
I found this metal circle thing (it used to be the top of lamp shade that got destroyed) and spray painted that too…
(i was originally going to use a crochet hoop so if you don’t have a spare lamp that will work too!)
to assemble:
I got some thin rope and melted the ends and stuck them down the hole…
tied a knot so it wouldn’t come out
then i tie them to the hoop
as i tie them around the circle lamp thing i make sure that each string is longer than the one before…

(this is my son’s bumblebee)

then hang

and i had a few cans leftover so i decided to go old school

just some painted cans– then i added some vinyl
(i would have let my kids paint it..but the paint mess was already cleaned up for the day!)
but you could let them decorate with stickers!)
add some yarn

down the hole the same way…

(no matter how much string you get…it’s not enough!)

my kids had a blast with this! even my husband tried it out! another day of summer that we survived!!!

alright! that’s it for me! come by and say hi at my blog! i would love to have you!

Kimbo – I had no idea that painted cans could look so good. My kids have been asking to do this all week. I guess I'd better start using more canned goods. 🙂

Added value for the creation of wind chimes and creativity should be implemented early on the children's mind. Resourcefulness is one of a kind learning.
