Summer Camp: Backyard Day at the Beach

Hello Design Dazzle Readers!
I am Angie from Echoes of Laughter and I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be here at Design Dazzle as a Camp Counsellor!

Thank you so much to Toni and her team for inviting me to share some fun with you!
I am honored and excited!
I am a  Canadian mom living in the great white north….Alberta, Canada,… with my 2 freckled sweeties, my husband and 2 fluffy poochies named Molly & Rigley.
When summer arrives in Alberta, we CELEBRATE in a big way! After super cold winters where temperatures can reach as low as -40, we want to get out and PARTY in the sunshine.
Today I am going to share with you some super-licious activities you can do with your family in your own backyard  for a
Day At The Beach !
Let’s  move on to some beach fun, shall we?
Bring the beach home! Great stay at home beach activities! Kids will love these!
The first activity we have today is a SEA LIFE COLLAGE!
For this activity, you will need:
  • White paper plates {2 per picture}.
  • Blue paint to  paint the ‘sea’.
  • White school glue.
  • Paint Brushes.
  • Sand or graham crackers crumbs to make the ‘seabed’.
  • Assorted foam sea creatures & seashells to make the picture. {I got mine from the dollar store}
  • String & a hole punch to hang the collage.
Directions:
  • Paint the bottom third of paper plate with glue, as shown.
  • Sprinkle sand or graham cracker crumbs to make seabed.
  • Paint the rest of the paper plate blue to ‘make’ ocean as shown. Let dry for a few minutes.
  • Glue seashells and sea creatures to ‘seabed’ and ‘water’ to make a beach picture.
  • Cut out the middle part of the 2nd paper plate, as shown.
  • Glue 2nd paper plate on top of beachy picture to make frame.
  • Punch hole in top of picture frame and insert string to hang the beach collage.
And here you have a fun-i-licous SEA LIFE COLLAGE to hang!
Whew! After all that activity, we need some LUNCH, don’t you think?
Let’s make a BEACHY BLUE SLURPEE since we are so thirsty!
For this, you will need:
  • package of Blue Kool Aid
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Club Soda
  • Ice Cubes
  • Straws
  • Swedish fish for garnish
  • Blender
Directions:
In blender, place 1 cup club soda, 1/2 cup sugar, and blue Kool Aid. Give the blender a quick whirl to mix. Add 4-5 cups of ice and more club soda. Blend until ice is crushed and drink is slushy. Pour into cups, add a straw, and garnish with a Swedish Fish! Cool-icious!
Let’s make a SEA CREATURE LUNCH!
For this lunch you will need:

Hot Dogs to make Mama & Baby Octopus.

Fish Crackers

Carrots & Cucumbers to make ‘seaweed’

Grape Tomatoes to make red sea coral

Ranch Dip for seaweed & sew flowers

Directions:

Cook 2 hot dogs per plate. Cut 1 hot dog as shown to make Mama Octopus. Cut another hot dog in half. Use one half of hot dog to cut as shown to make Baby Octopus. Put Mama & Baby Octopus on plate. Garnish with fish crackers. Cut carrots & cucumber into small sticks to make ‘seaweed’ as shown. Cut grape tomatoes in half and then add additional cuts to make red sea coral. Add ‘seaweed’ and ‘red sea coral’ to plate as shown. Add small container of ranch dressing for dipping ‘seaweed’.

Now, let’s spread out that beach blanket and EAT….BON APPETIT !!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for joining me today for
